Phill Harris began studying piano and trombone at the age of 12. While learning these two instruments he served at his home church, Greater Bethel A.M.E in Chesapeake, Virginia. Other musical memories consist of performing with the late great Saxophonist Chris Vindalin, who was the saxophonist for Chuck Mangione. He also played for recording artist Casey J, Stellar Award-winning artist Earl Bynum and the Mount Unity Choir, and the legendary Dorothy Norwood.
Phill attended George Mason University where he received his Bachelor of Arts in Music and Master’s in Music in Jazz Pedagogy. During his college career, Phill performed with the Symphonic Band, the Mason Jazz Ensemble, Mason Jazz Workshop, Jazz Combos, and the Green Machine. Phill released an album in 2023, From The Vine, that is accessible on all digital outlets including YouTube. While composing and arranging music, Phill lives in Manassas, Va and has shared his teaching ability as a band director at Green Hedges School in Vienna, Va. Phill enjoys sharing knowledge with the future generation that they may become better in their craft when it comes to music.
